Slippery When WET Lube Wrestling Friday 9/1

We hope you have seen the ads in EXP Magazine or seen it posted
in our website, www.FacesNoLimits.com. We need you to help
us tell your friends. This Friday, September 1, 2006 - Labor Day
Weekend Faces on Fourth Street and Wet Platinum Lube presents
our first Slippery When WET Lube WrestlingContest. Friday is 18+
to enter & 21+ to drink. Doors open @ 10 PM. Cover is $10 for
everyone. Resident DJ Pavel spins after the lube wrestling
event. Kennedy St. James hosts the evening and will present a
short show. The show starts @ 11:30 PM. Enjoy our $2 Mich Ultra
all night. This is something new for us but we hear that bars
like Hydrate in Chicago offer lube wrestling and it is a big
hit. We hope to make it a monthly event.

Here's the details...we need guys who aren't ashamed of their
bodies...guys willing to wrestle in their Bike Jockstrap in Wet
Lube...bring a buddy that you want to wrestle or we will try to
pair you off...we hope to have at least 8-10 pairs of
guys...you'll sign a release, strip down to your Bike Jock,
we'll spray you with lube, you'll start your match in the
kneeling position (we don't want you to slip and fall)...
everyone who enters will get some great Wet Lube gifts, & a
Faces pass good for the rest of Labor Day Weekend, then the
winner of each match will win prizes with a $25 value (cash and
product) and your name will be put in the drawing for the grand
prize...a Wet Lube Gift Basket and $50 cash. The object is to
get all lubed up, pin your opponent, have some fun, and not
really hurt each other.

Our Slippery When WET Lube Wrestling should be a great way to
start your Labor Day Weekend. You can sign up now by emailing us
@ wrestle@facesnolimits.com or just show up by 11 PM to sign
up. Remember to wear your Bike Jock.

Red Bull - A Bar Before It Was An Energy Drink

From the Vaults of Faces on Fourth Street - Before there was a bar with a name taken from a children's book in Sauget, before Velvet, before Mag's, Clementine's, and The Complex poured their first drink, there was Faces on Fourth Street. Faces' founder, Jerry Edwards operated bars called The Red Bull (before there was an energy drink) in two successive locations in East St. Louis and bar called The News Room...then he purchased a closed department store and created Faces. Jerry died several years ago, but the legendary club lives on. Faces on Fourth Street celebrates our 29th anniversary this October. Some of those years have been rough...there have been times when Faces barely survived...not only did we lose several generations of wonderful customers and dear friends to AIDS before an American President would even publicly speak about it, we were also confronted with competitors less then a block away. Over the years, others have tried and failed to copy Faces. If you look to your right as you get off east bound highway 64 at the Fourth Street exit, you can see Club XO. Club XO, now a hip hop club, used to be a gay club called City Center, then the Metroplex. Three different sets of owners of City Center tried to compete with Faces by copying our concept...never creating something new...just copying us...some of the most savvy bar owners... both gay and lesbian were involved...each time, the customers decided to stick with us and our competitors failed.

Faces - Men's & Boy's Dept to Fallout Shelter

From the Vaults of Faces on Fourth Street:
You may have noticed a slightly worn sign painted on the brick above the Basement door of Faces on Fourth Street...the sign reads, "Al's Men and Boy's Shop Entrance"... while appropriate for our Basement Bar, it was actually a sign for the original occupant of the building, a prominent department store. The Faces building was a department store from the late 20's to the 60's, but also served as a bomb/fallout shelter in the 50's & 60's. When Faces' original owner bought the closed department store in 1977, the basement was still full of bomb shelter survival supplies.

Saturday August 19 - Chicago DJ Greg Haus

www.facesnolimits.com

www.djgreghaus.com

It's only bold, new, and different the first time someone does it...

From the Vaults of Faces on Fourth Street: It's sometimes fun to look back at where we started, where we have been, what we have done, and what we have seen...Faces on Fourth Street will be celebrating our 29th anniversary in October 2006. For those of you who are new to the gay scene or just new to the Faces experience, we hope to share fun, little glimpes of our past to help you understand us and maybe make your night @ Faces more interesting. Wednesday nights @ Faces didn't start with our Original Battle of the Amateur Queens. Our Drag Battle evolved over time into one of our most popular show nights while launching the drag careers of many of St. Louis' most popular entertainers (Siren & Madison Elise peformed first @ our Wednesday Drag Battle). We looked at the club scene on Wednesdays and decided to try something that no one else was doing. On March 7, 2001 Faces introduced a new concept to St. Louis...Stroke....our flyers read, "Finally...a reason to go out on Wednesday night..." Stroke @ Faces was all about presenting special guest DJs on a night when no one else was really doing that. We boldly presented a new night with a roster of incredible DJs that included, Lego from Chicago, Chris Allen from Lafitte's in New Orleans, Bill Bennett, at the time he was from Cobalt in Detroit, Rob Thomas from LA, Julian Marsh from LA, Michael Serafini from Chicago, Monty Q. from Miami, as well as Jeff Jones, Mikey B., Billy Coons, and Beezwakz from St. Louis. While we loved the incredible guest DJs, our Stroke night proved hard to sell to St. Louis...we heard from our customers...and Stroke evolved into our Wednesday 18+ College Dance Party with The Original Battle of the Amateur Drag Queens. We continue to bring in incredible guest DJs but we find that it works best for us to do that on weekends. It was around this time that we also featured a weekly night of deep house and progressive trance music every Friday night. We also found it hard to sell house and trance to the gay community and shifted our Friday focus as well. So, next time someone says they are tired of the music and declares that someone needs to change it...that someone needs to try something new and different...that someone needs to shake things up...you can look at them knowingly and smile.

Big News! Legendary Circuit DJ David Knapp Makes Faces Debut

The news you have been waiting for...tell your friends...
Faces on Fourth Street is proud to announce that legendary circuit DJ, David Knapp will make his Faces debut on Saturday, August 26, 2006.
“David’s mixes are so amazing. He can blend anything together,” says superstar DJ Manny Lehman of his Madtizzy brethren. “He is a human Metronome.”

As the original Circuit DJ, David Knapp has assumed many similarly flattering characterizations during an illustrious career that has spanned two decades. Often referred to as The People’s DJ because of his unique ability to make each crowd feel like it’s the most important party he’s ever played, David is truly there for the audience as much as they are there for him.

In the midst of South Beach’s rebirth in the early 90s as the inevitable international nightlife mecca, David Knapp graduated from the University of Miami Law School and passed the Bar Exam. While he could have easily pursued a lucrative career practicing law, he instead decided to follow his passion for music. And he hasn’t looked back once yet.

An early gig at Boomerang (later known as Groove Jet) led to a career-defining residency at Kremlin. It was during his time at the Lincoln Road Mall hotspot (now called Score) that David first got involved with Miami’s White Party, the annual series of benefit events held during Thanksgiving week. David went on to headline the signature Sunday night party at the lavish waterfront Italian Renaissance-style palazzo, Vizcaya, for an astonishing 10 years. With White Party widely considered the crown jewel of the gay party Circuit, David became its honorary, albeit disarmingly humble, king.

While traveling the world making appearances at the multitude of similar Circuit weekends that popped up across the country and around the world, the Billboard-reporting DJ forged key relationships with some of New York’s heaviest hitters. Having duly impressed legendary DJ/producer Junior Vasquez on several occasions, David was invited by the master himself to guest DJ at Palladium and Tunnel, and eventually landed the ultimate guest residency at Twilo in 1999. He’s also played Boy’s Life, Limelight, the Empire State Pride Agenda benefit, Heritage of Pride’s Pier Dance, and has the distinction of being the first non-New York-based DJ to play the Saint-at-Large Black Party two years in a row. David currently plays numerous parties throughout the year at Splash.

Another similarly prolific alliance with über-promoter John Blair resulted in David sharing a residency at Roxy with Victor Calderone and his being commissioned to remix Volume 1 of Blair’s NYC’s Best DJs CD series. David has also remixed several White Party benefit CDs for Centaur Music, as well as others in the Global Groove and Party Groove [?] series. Gentleman’s Quarterly also named David one of the six most influential DJs in America in its July 2000 issue. He was also featured alongside Danny Tenaglia, Eddie X, Junior Vasquez and Victor Calderone in the 2002 [?] documentary about global DJs called Dance Culture In The Mix.

In early 2000, David signed on with Madtizzy where George Dellinger has managed his infinitely fertile career since. David has also helped scout new talent for George to bring onboard. His efforts so far have yielded one of the Circuit’s most in-demand talents signing with Madtizzy -- Chad Jack.

With past and present residencies at many of North America’s most influential nightclubs under his belt, including San Francisco’s Sanctuary parties, Coliseum in Fort Lauderdale, as well as regular trips to spin at Le Queen in Paris and Dome in Tel Aviv, David concentrates much of his effort these days on local gigs in his current hometown of Atlanta at Jungle, Red Chair, and the highly acclaimed Fruitcake Production events. David will also headlines the prestigious Joining Hearts event. Having established a family there with his partner Scott, adopted son Ryan (who, incidentally, celebrates his birthday Winter Party Weekend), and adopted daughter Kira, David is also building a studio and plans to produce and remix music with local colleagues Greg Dean and Dave Hansen. David has most recently debuted original remixes of Gioia, Funky Green Dogs, Lonnie Gordon, DJ Vic, and Amerie.

There remain few parties or cities David has yet to play, but among the many highlights are parties most recently in Sao Paolo, Rio, Thailand, Zurich, Mexico City, Mykonos, Paris, and Tel Aviv and just recently played Atlanta, San Francisco, Toronto and DC Pride events. David will be doing Circuit Asia in Thailand in the fall, and will be playing the big SLDN aircraft carrrier benefit “Momentum on the Midway” in San Diego for the second year in a row. He also has enjoyed many recurrent gigs at Avalon in Boston, Chicago’s Crobar, Hydrate, and Circuit, Mark Baker’s Arabian Knights after-hours in Orlando during Gay Disney, and the sunset cruise in Provincetown during the July 4th holiday. A highly accomplished and archetypal DJ who helped frame the modern party paradigm, David Knapp is a legend in his own right who continues to influence trends in music while entertaining legions of fans around the world. And he shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
