8 Inches & Other Chat Room Lies

Most of us have experienced first hand, lies on the Internet. We know that when someone announces in a full chat room that they are 6ft 1, weigh 150, and have an 8 inch cock, they are probably 5 ft 1, weigh 250, and have a 3 inch cock. We all know that people lie on the Internet. Some do it to try to get laid, some do it to be the center of attention in the chat room, some do it to hurt a local business, some do it because they are self-loathing, closeted, alone, and hate everyone who doesn't share their misery. The point is that everything that you read in a chat room is not true. If the lies somehow have an impact on you, then it pays to investigate, to verify, before you believe anything you read on Gay.com, AOL, or MySpace. I once had a heated argument with someone in a St. Louis AOL chat room who swore that The Complex had burnt down. They swore that they were there, saw the flames engulf the building, saw the fire trucks failing to put out the fire. I had just watched the local news on TV, saw that the fire involved a gas storage yard on the same street as The Complex but a few blocks away, that some or the tanks had exploded, but saw that The Complex was not on fire. I called someone from The Complex to confirm this. Even when confronted with the facts, this person in the chat room continued to announce to everyone that The Complex had burned down. We have all encountered these kind of chat room experts. Maybe the guy really believed he had seen The Complex burning, maybe he had some personal grudge against the bar, or maybe he worked for another bar and was trying to help his own bar by making people think The Complex was closed. Well, we all know that The Complex did not burn down. There have been rumors about bars for years...rumors that St. Louis University had bought Mag's and The Complex are probably some of the longest running rumors. We have been the victim of these rumors too. Most recently, last weekend, "the word" was out that we were closed on Easter. While I am sure that the 200 people who partied with us on Easter would be surprised that we were closed, the rumors still persist. We can laugh at it...Petrina Marie used to say that the important thing is that people are talking about us...but we are concerned that people who we know, who we respect, who we think have a lot of common sense, are actually believing these rumors. We have heard for several years that we were closing, often with very specific dates mentioned. Over the weekend, I was asked several times if it was true that we were closing in August. When I told them that we were not closing, they seemed incredulous, as though the rumors in chat rooms have to be more reliable then the owner of the biggest gay bar in St. Louis. One of the things that helps us weather slow nights, high gas prices, and Internet rumors is that we actually own the building that holds Faces on Fourth Street. Most bars don't own their buildings and have to pay rent to landlords. Faces, The Complex, Attitude's, and Clem's are the only St. Louis bars that we are aware of that own their own buildings. This gives us an advantage. So, feel free to cut and past this or email it to your friends. Faces on Fourth Street did not close on Easter. We had a great crowd. Faces on Fourth Street is not closing in August. We will soon be celebrating our 29th year as St. Louis' hottest afterhours gay dance bar. We just ran 3 pages of ads in the latest issue of EXP Magazine. We just printed new color flyers for our Wednesday and Sunday 18+ College Dance Parties. Both would be kind of stupid things to do if we were closing. We just had our most successful Lights Out/Underwear Party and we just had a great crowd for our Miss Faces 2006 Pageant. We have hosted more events, theme parties, recording artists, and adult video stars then any other gay bar in St. Louis. We are open 5 nights a week, with 3 18+ dance parties every week, and four nights of drag shows. Please tell your friends to laugh at the rumors, consider the source, and join us this week.
